Thank God For The "Freshman 15"

We had a wonderful vacation on Cape Cod this past week. The weather was perfect; there was only one day that was a washout due to rain. I will give a brief review and try not to bore you with the details.

We stay in Wellfleet, which is on the outer cape, and can easily get to both the ocean beaches and the cape beaches within 10 minutes. We went to Newcomb Hollow beach most days, sometimes going to Mayo Beach, near Wellfleet harbor so the kids could have more fun in the calmer water.

As many of you can relate, the children were up rather early every day. Seeing the rest of the house isn't used to waking up at 6:00 am, Mrs. Joe and I would load Peanut & The Champ into the strollers and head to the park to kill some time. Lucky for us, we were able to stop at The Flying Fish Cafe for a coffee along the way.

The whole family got together one night and toasted marshmallows at a beach fire. More than once, we drove to Nauset Ice Cream in Eastham for a treat. We took The Champ to miniature golf at The Red Barn in Eastham. He scored more hole-in-ones than I did!

Thanks to my in-laws, Mrs. Joe & I had three nights to ourselves. We had dinner at The Wicked Oyster in Wellfleet and Mahoney’s Atlantic in Orleans. We went up to Provincetown Saturday night, shopped along Commercial St., had a nice dinner at Napi’s and caught some of the Red Sox game at the Squealing Pig.

Everything made for a great time as I said, but there was one thing that occurred on the first day which helped set the tone for the week. Let me start by noting that Mrs. Joe has two younger sisters, one is in college and the other is still in high school. They are both out there for the summer working. The older sister had left her bikini lying out and Mrs. Joe felt a little brave.

End result is; being a mother of two, over 30, looking better than your teenage sister (in HER bikini) and confident enough to wear said bikini to the beach a few times makes for a happy mommy.

Thank you, UMass, Old Navy and the Y .

Sounds like a wonderful vacation. Beach time, roasting marshmallows, time alone with Mrs. Joe (in a bikini, even!). Sounds awesome.

And by the way, I nominated you as an Awesome Dude Blogger. It is a well-deserved honor. Your blog is great!

Thanks for making me feel nostalgic for the Cape. Mrs. Big Dubya and I have been jonesing for a trip back to the Vineyard and drinks at The Wharf. However, unlike Mick and the boys, time has not been on our side at all.

Sounds great...except for the having to watch the Sox part. And I hope your sister-in-law doesn't read the blog...but way to be, Mrs. Joe.
